A Sisters' Tale
December 2024
Great news: A SISTERS' TALE by Leila Amini opens in cinemas on December 19th! A premiere tour with special screenings will begin in French-speaking Switzerland on December 10th.
Leila accompanies her older sister with her camera for seven years. She witnesses the liberation process of a woman who rediscovers her voice as a singer and self-determined individual: From a vulnerable spouse, Nasreen transformed into a woman who takes her destiny into her own hands. Nasreen's emancipation leads to fundamental changes for her children, her sisters and her mother. And inspires many of her contemporaries, in Iran and beyond, to take their future into their own hands.

Three documentaries from Mira Film will be screened at this year's International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
The film ON THE BORDER by Igor Hauzenberger and Gabriela Schild will celebrate its world premiere in the presence of the director and the main protagonist. The film is a portrait of the Tuareg city of Agadez in Niger and traces the daily efforts of three city dwellers to combat social and political grievances.
The documentary A SISTERS' TALE by Leila Amini will also be screened in the Best of Fests section. It celebrated its world premiere as the opening film of the Semaine de la Critique at the Locarno Film Festival and its US premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film depicts the emancipatory journey of a young mother who decides to pursue her lifelong dream of singing despite the far-reaching restrictions on women in Iran.
REAS by Lola Arias, which has already been included in the program at more than 50 festivals, will also be shown at the IDFA. The film reinvents the film musical as a collective work: the performers dance and sing about their true past in prison. They revive their lives as fiction and dream up a possible future for themselves in their imagination.
